Facile win for Andhra

Andhra defeated Tamil Nadu by 10 wickets in the first league match of the Vijay Merchant Trophy South Zone under-16 inter-State tournament here on Tuesday.

After left-arm off-spinner D.S.K.S. Nikhil, with a five-for, restricted Tamil Nadu in its second innings to 141, Andhra easily knocked off the target of 43.Karnataka escaped defeat by skin of its teeth against Goa with its last wicket pair managing to force a draw. Chasing a target of 266, Karnataka finished at 180 for nine.

Hyderabad made a gallant bid to score 75 runs in its second knock against Kerala but did not have sufficient number of overs.

The scores: Tamil Nadu 222 and 141 in 62.4 overs (N. Jagadeeshan 59, G. Vikram 26, D.S.K.S. Nikhil five for 35, I. Karthik Raman three for 46) lost to Andhra 321 and 46 for no loss in 14 overs (Surendra Babu 26 n.o.). Andhra six points, Tamil Nadu 0.

Goa 322 and 153 in 43.1 overs (Isham Gadekar 59, Snehal Koutankar 45, Pranov Vajeayeem four for 41, Parthik Patil three for 63) drew with Karnataka 210 and 180 for nine in 56 overs (Sarath Srinivas 49, Abhishek A.P. 42, Vedanta Nayak three for 26, Amulya Pandrekar three for 72). Goa 3 points, Karnataka 1.

Kerala 213 and 165 in 77.4 overs (Salman Nazir 58, Subin S. 49, P. Pratyush Reddy five for 52) drew with Hyderabad 304 in 108.4 overs (K.S.K. Chaitanya 107, G. Rahul Singh 58, T. Nikhil 38, Rohit Reddy 35, Suraj four for 67) and 48 for two in five overs (G. Rahul Singh 26). Hyderabad 3 points, Kerala one point.
