D.Y. Patil T20 Cup: D.Y. Patil ‘A’ lose to Jain Irrigation

Defending champions D.Y. Patil ‘A’ lost to qualifier Jain Irrigation by four wickets in Group A league at the 10 All India Dr D.Y. Patil T20 Cup at the D.Y. Patil stadium, Nerul, on Thursday. The hosts managed 121-7 in 20 overs, with Siddharth Chitnis top-scoring at 32. Left-arm spinner Akshay Darekar, slated to play the 2014 Ranji Trophy final for Maharashtra next week, picked up 2-11 and medium-pacer Azhar Ansari 2-28.

Jain Irrigation batsmen withstood the wily Praveen Tambe (3-22) and Udit Patel (2-13) to overhaul the target losing six wickets. Krunal Nair (39) top-scored, Mansingh Nigde (23) and Rajiv Mishra (21) also chipped in. DYP featured IPL sensation Saurabh Tiwary, India A batsman Manprit Juneja and Mumbai off-spinner Tambe.

Air-India defeated State Bank of Hyderabad by 18 runs in Group C league. Comptroller & Auditor General (CAG) beat Western Railway by eight wickets in Group C. The event is organised by DYP Sports Academy under the auspices of Mumbai Cricket Association.

Western Railway 109-4 in 20 overs (Dhiren Salvi 57, Sandeep Chawda 26; Peeturaj Singh 2/19) lost to CAG 110-2 in 16 overs (Biplap Samantray 57, Ankur Julka 32; Narendra Diwane 2/27) by eight wickets.

Air India 193-6 in 20 overs (Sushant Marathe 78, Prashant Naik 44, Paul Valthaty 38; Alfred Absolem 2/35) beat State Bank of Hyderabad 175-8 in 20 overs (T. Suman 81, B. Sumanth 54; Pankaj Singh 2/23, Kamran Khan 2/28, Bradley Alam 2/33) by 18 runs.
