Mushfiqur and bowlers star in 137-run win

Mushfiqur Rahim’s career-best in ODIs (144, 150b, 11x4, 4x6), aided by a disciplined bowling performance and a dismal batting show by the Sri Lankans, helped Bangladesh register a 137-run win in a Group B tie at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium on Saturday.

After the momentum swung Bangladesh’s way, thanks to Mushfiqur’s late charge, the new ball bowlers — Mashrafe Mortaza and Mustafizur Rahman — bowled an inspired spell to reduce Sri Lanka to 38 for four in the fifth over.

The Sri Lankan line-up, heavily reliant on Angelo Mathews, crumbled under pressure.

When Rubel Hossain got the prize scalp of the skipper, trapping him lbw, to leave Sri Lanka reeling at 63 for six in the 18th over, it was clear that the Tigers would roll over the Lions.

Dilruwan Perera and Suranga Lakmal took Sri Lanka to three figures with a 24-run partnership, only delaying the inevitable.
