India’s Deepti Sharma (188) and Poonam Raut (109) piled on 320 in 45.3 overs against Ireland, in the ongoing Quadrangular Series here on Monday, to become the first pair, either male or female, to share a 300-run opening-wicket partnership in One-Day Internationals.
The stand bettered the 286 scored by Sri Lanka’s Upul Tharanga and Sanath Jayasuriya against England in 2006.
The earlier best partnership for the first wicket in women’s cricket was 268 by Sarah Taylor and Caroline Atkins against South Africa in 2008.

India, which amassed 358 for two in 50 overs, went on to win the match by a whopping 249 runs.
The scores: India 358 for two in 50 overs (Deepti Sharma 188, Poonam Raut 109) bt Ireland 109 (Mary Waldron 35, Rajeshwari Gayakwad forur for 18, Shikha Pandey three for 16) .
