The Nagarhole wildlife sanctuary, located close to the Karnataka-Kerala border, provided an invigorating backdrop as the India under-19 cricket squad’s World Cup preparatory phase commenced in the forest on Monday.

The three-day boot camp, with a jungle resort as the base, is aimed at breaking the monotony of routine training schedules at the National Cricket Academy besides serving as a place for team-building exercises.

The Unmukt Chand-led team is gearing up for the under-19 World Cup in Australia from August 11 to 26. The group, along with coach B. Arun, will return to Bangalore on Wednesday and resume regular training at the NCA on Thursday.

The players will be at the academy till August 2 before heading to Australia from Mumbai. India opens its campaign against the West Indies on August 12.

The squad: Unmukt Chand (capt.), Akshdeep Nath (vice-capt.), Manan Vohra, Akhil Herwadkar, Vijay Zol, Sandipan Das, B. Aparajith, Prashant Chopra, Sandeep Sharma, Kamal Passi, Rush Kalaria, Mohsin Sayyed, Smit Patel, Harmeet Singh and Vikas Mishra;
