India’s first ODI series win in South Africa excited the acting BCCI president C.K. Khanna so much that he went to the extent of suggesting a ₹30 lakh bonus to each of the players and the support staff.
It is learnt that Khanna shot off a letter to a few BCCI officials and the Committee of Administrators (CoA), but he was told that the BCCI doesn’t award the team and support staff with bonuses for bilateral series and that it is given only for ICC events.
India won the six match series 5-1, after unsuccessful attempts on the previous four tours.
India lost 2-5 in 1992, 0-4 in 2006, 2-3 in 2011 and 0-2 in 2013.
