Tendulkar rested

The Selection Committee of the Board of Control for Cricket in India met here at the M.A. Chidambaram Stadium to announce the fourteen member squad for the third and final ODI against South Africa to be played on February 27 at the Sardar Patel Stadium, Ahmedabad.

Sachin Tendulkar will be rested for the encounter while Karnataka paceman Abhimanyu Mithun, the leading wicket taker in the 2009-10 Ranji season, received his maiden ODI call up.

The original fifteen member squad will be pruned by one as Sachin Tendulkar, Virender Sehwag, Abhishek Nayar and Pravin Kumar will make way for Murali Vijay, Rohit Sharma and Abhimanyu Mithun.

Chairman of the Selection Committee K. Srikkanth heaped praise on the rested Sachin Tendulkar, calling him “The God of world cricket” and that his commitment and passion were attributes that the youngsters should learn from.

The squad (Third ODI):

M.S. Dhoni (captain), M. Vijay, Dinesh Karthik, Virat Kohli, Suresh Raina, Rohit Sharma, Yusuf Pathan, Ravindra Jadeja, Sudeep Tyagi, S. Sreesanth, R. Ashwin, Amit Mishra, Abhimanyu Mithun, Ashish Nehra.
