Stripped of his Cricket Australia contract on disciplinary grounds two months ago, controversial Australian all-rounder Andrew Symonds is keeping busy himself with rugby these days.

Symonds, a supporter of Broncos from his childhood, has become a familiar face at training sessions of the Brisbane NRL side over the past fortnight.

Broncos coach Ivan Henjak said the presence of troubled ex-Test cricketer was not an unwanted distraction as his players walk the NRL tightrope to secure the club’s 18th straight finals berth but rather welcome.

“It’s been nothing but positive from my end, I’m very happy to have him here,” Henjak said.

“He hasn’t been a disruption at all, having his presence around is good for everyone. He has a wealth of experience of playing top-level sport, he has a lot to offer,” Henjak was quoted as saying by Daily Telegraph

In 2002, Symonds secretly thought of switching to the Broncos before his cricket career ignited.

However, Henjak denies a future NRL cameo is on the cards for Symonds. “He’s played cricket at highest level. That experience is invaluable, no matter what sport you play,” the coach said.
