Sehwag backs his team

April 10, 2011 11:58 pm | Updated September 26, 2016 11:18 pm IST - NEW DELHI:

Virender Sehwag was gracious in defeat, backing his every player of the Delhi Daredevils side to the hilt.

“Everything went in favour of Mumbai. It is difficult to defend 95. But our bowlers and fielders did a fantastic job. It's the first game, so it will take a couple of games (to settle down),” said Sehwag on Sunday.

Like a true leader, he did not shirk responsibility. “As a skipper, I have to back my team. I have to back all the players and try to get a good combination in the next couple of games. If we get the combination right we will be a difficult side,” he said.

“We have a few exciting players. They are still young and learning. If you bat for 20 overs and put runs on the board then it becomes difficult for the opponent.”

Asked about Lasith Malinga bowling a maiden over to him, Sehwag said Daredevils guarded against losing wickets to the Sri Lankan speedster.

“The plan was that the more I play Malinga, the better. If other batsmen had played him, there were chances that they could have got out to him. I have played him before so I pick all of his variations,” he said.

Sehwag was not in favour of introducing the Decision Review System (DRS) in the IPL.
