Muralitharan doubtful for semis against New Zealand

March 28, 2011 02:14 pm | Updated 02:15 pm IST - COLOMBO, Sri Lanka

Muttiah Muralitharan is doubtful for Sri Lanka’s World Cup semifinal against New Zealand on Tuesday.

Captain Kumar Sangakkara says Muralitharan is carrying multiple injuries and “we have to monitor how he goes.”

Muralitharan strained a hamstring in the last group match against New Zealand.

Sangakkara says the world’s leading wicket—taker aggravated a quadriceps muscle in the quarterfinal win over England.

Muralitharan did some light training Monday and also bowled handful of deliveries in the nets, but clearly did not look in peak physical condition.

Paceman Nuwan Kulasekara, who missed the quarterfinal after Sri Lanka opted to play three spinners, will likely be recalled if Muralitharan is ruled out.
