Royal Challengers Bangalore captain Anil Kumble has announced his decision to withdraw from the upcoming DLF Indian Premier League Auction 2011. Kumble, who was recently elected as the Karnataka State Cricket Association president, cited business commitments, including association with cricket and wildlife in various capacities as the reasons.

“I have enjoyed my stint at the IPL so far and thank all concerned for the support extended,” said Kumble, according to a BCCI media release.

"I wish to withdraw from the players’ auction for IPL IV scheduled for the 8th and 9th of January 2011 in Bangalore."

The former Indian captain fashioned RCB’s turnaround in IPL, leading by personal example as the Bangalore side qualified for the IPL 2009 final, then again to third place in IPL 3.

Kumble’s ability to get players under him fully focussed on the task at hand resulted in RCB making a name as an entertaining, fighting unit. The Bangalore franchise qualified for Airtel Champions League T20 twice under him.

On a personal level, Kumble overcame doubts about his utility in T20 format with disciplined leg-spin bowling, managing 45 wickets over three IPL editions and winning respect of teammates and opponents with breakthroughs at critical situations.

RCB did not retain him for this season and was among players up for auction at a reserved price of USD 4,00,000. Virat Kohli is the only player retained, as announced by the Bangalore side.

India’s highest wicket-taker in Test cricket (619 in 132 Tests), he was one of the nation’s outstanding captains.
