The International Cricket Council has confirmed that the World Cup match between India and England, earlier scheduled to be held at Kolkata's Eden Gardens, will now be held at Bangalore on the same date — February 27.
In an ICC press release, the organisation's Chief Executive Haroon Lorgat said: “This decision now gives us certainty over the fixture.” Meanwhile, ICC officials will inspect the Eden Gardens on February 7 to ascertain the progress made by the venue for its other matches scheduled on March 15, 18 and 20.
KSCA President Anil Kumble welcomed the move to shift the match to Bangalore. “We are ready for the game and everything will be in place,” Kumble said after he interacted with the British Deputy High Commissioner Richard Hyde.
“Initially this meeting was actually scheduled to discuss the formalities with regard to the match between England and Ireland here on March 2 and then we got the match on February 27 that again involves England. So obviously that match was discussed too. It was basically to discuss the facilities for the players and the public and security arrangements.”
