South African captain Graeme Smith was declared fit for the second cricket Test against India beginning at the Eden Gardens on Sunday.

Smith, who fractured a joint in his left little finger while practising and was doubtful for the match, was adjudged fit to play after he did not experience any discomfort during a long batting session at the nets on Saturday.

“Graeme is fit. He had no problems at the net. He will play tomorrow,” South African media manager Michael Owen Smith told IANS .

Earlier in the day, Smith had sent the alarm bells ringing in the South African camp when he revealed that he had a fracture.

“It’s a small fracture on the joint of the left little finger. But I will try my best to fight through the day and be available for the match,” Smith said.
