Australia picks Khwaja for Pakistan Tests

Pakistan-born Usman Khawaja on Tuesday became the first Muslim picked to represent Australia in a cricket Test match.

The 23-year-old batsman is in the team to play Pakistan in two Tests in England next month.

Khawaja, who was 3 when his family moved from Islamabad to Sydney, said his religion was irrelevant.

“It doesn’t cross my mind until someone brought it up ... I never once ever feel like I’m different,” Khawaja said.

“When I was a kid I dreamed of going on tour, but I am not looking too far ahead. If I just carry the drinks the whole time, it won’t really bother me.”
