Under the auspices of Tamil Nadu Sports Development Corporation, the District Sports Officer here will organise various sports events in 13 blocks from November 8 to 10.
The events will include basketball, hockey, football, handball, volleyball and kabaddi.
The team that comes first at the block-level will be allowed to compete in the district-level event. In athletics, those occupying the first and second positions will compete in the district-level tournament.
Those who get selected at the district-level will take part in the State-level event. According to Mr V. S. Ramasubramanian, the District Sports Officer, the objective of the block-level sports meet was to unearth talent at the grass root level.
Pointing out that there were a lot of talented players in the thirteen blocks who have remained unnoticed, the District Sports Officer said it was high time they got an opportunity to come up and the only way it could happen was through such block-level events.
Those players from the district who want to take part in these events should report at their respective block venues on November 8 at 8.00 a.m, he added.
