Defending champion Atletico de Kolkata’s marquee player Helder Postiga will be returning to his country for treatment.

“Our marquee player Helder Postiga is going back to Portugal for further treatment,” said Alberto Marrero, sports director of Atletico de Kolkata, in a statement.

“We have sent his MRI reports for further consultation with specialists at Atletico de Madrid.

“He will be under observation for three-four weeks where he will recuperate and recover under the watchful eyes of international doctors of repute and Atletico de Madrid support staff at their academy,” Marrero added.

The striker has been injury-prone in the last few years and had to be taken off midway when he turned out for his country in tournaments like the European Championship (2012) and the World Cup (2014).

Postiga’s latest injury will serve as a big blow for ATK in its ISL campaign.
