Sanjana Choudhary of Rajasthan threw the spear to a distance of 46.97m for the girls’ javelin gold in the Sri Krishna Institutions 16th Federation Cup National junior athletics championship at the Nehru Stadium here on Friday.

Hemamalini (Tamil Nadu) and Jyoti (Haryana) finished for the silver and bronze respectively.

The junior boys 5000m race turned out to be a close one between Gurpreet of Haryana and Sanjay Kumar of the host State. The former hung on to finish for the gold but the latter, who clinched the silver and brought early cheers to the home crowd, was later disqualified as he was found overage. The results were amended accordingly and Ajay Kumar Bind (Uttar Pradesh) and Dinesh Singh (Maharashtra) were elevated to the second and third places respectively.

Interestingly, the TNAA secretary C. Latha and the Technical Delegate of this meet A. Rajavelu said they were not aware of this ‘morning’ incident.

A sudden downpour delayed the start of the evening session by more than half an hour. And that did some damage as quite a few of the events had to be rescheduled for Saturday due to poor lighting facility.

The meet was officially inaugurated by the Coimbatore City Police Commissioner, K. Periaiah.
