Welcome, mates! Boxers M.C. Mary Kom and Sarita Devi with other members of the Indian contingent during the flag-hoisting ceremony at the Games village on Monday.

The Indian team was officially welcomed to the Games Village on Monday evening.

Though the country is fielding a big contingent of 219 athletes, including 104 women, there were only a few present at the short ceremony presided over by the Games Village mayors Sara Carrigan and Mark Stockwell, both reputed athletes of their time.

The duo welcomed the Indian chef-de-mission Vikram Singh Sisodia and presented him with a memento before the Tricolour was raised.

Ms. Carrigan complimented the athletes for having worked hard to meet the norm and making it to the Games, and hoped that they will be rewarded. She also exhorted the athletes to take part holding high the spirit of fair play.
