South African ‘blade runner’ Oscar Pistorius ran out of steam and was eliminated in the 400 metres semifinals at the London Olympics on Sunday.

The double-amputee runner, whose nickname comes from the carbon fibre prosthetics he uses on the track, finished last in his heat in 46.54 seconds, almost two seconds behind world champion Kirani James of Grenada (44.59).

James and Pistorius exchanged bibs with their names on them and embraced on the track after finishing.
