Annu clinches bronze




Asian silver medallist Annu Rani, who has been steady in the 60m range this season, won the women’s javelin bronze in the 58th Ostrava Golden Spike athletics meet, an IAAF World Challenge event, here on Thursday.

Annu, who broke her own National record with a 62.34m effort in the Federation Cup in Patiala in March and qualified for this September’s World Championships in Doha, had a best throw of 60.20m on Thursday. The 26-year-old had two other throws of 59.91 and 59.89 in her series.

Croatia’s Sara Kolak, the Olympic champion who has a personal best of 68.43m, took the gold while Slovenia’s Martina Ratej bagged the silver.

The result: Women’s javelin: 1. Sara Kolak (Cro) 64.45m, 2. Martina Ratej (Slo) 61.01, 3. Annu Rani (Ind) 60.20.
