Ankit, Navjeet set national records

Ankit Kumar of Uttar Pradesh, Navjeet Kaur of Punjab and K. Dileep Kumar of Andhra Pradesh set national junior records in the boys’ (under-16) 5000m walk, the girls’ (under-18) discus throw and junior men (under-20) decathlon respectively on the third of the 28th National junior athletics championships here on Monday.

Ankit clocked 22:17.15 to better the 2002 record of Lokendra Singh (Manipur) that stood at 22:48.20, while Navjeet threw to a distance of 49.54m to erase the previous mark of 45.08 in the name of Prabhjot Kaur of Punjab, set in 2009.

Dileep tallied 7020 points in decathlon to better the record of 6866 points set by Barmeswar Nath of Bihar in 2000.

The results: Junior men (under-20): 110m hurdles: 1. Akhil Johnson (Ker) 14.44s, 2. Rupinder Singh (Pun) 14.48, 3. C.P. Srikanth Madhyastha (Kar) 14.49; Long jump: 1. K. Premkumar (TN) 7.56m, 2. Pardeep Arya (Har) 7.35, 3. Chandan Kumar Yadav (Jkd) 7.14; Discus: 1. Krishna Kumar (Raj) 51.89m, 2. Parmod (Har) 51.43, 3. Dilyogi (Del) 50.87. Decathlon: 1. Dileep Kumar (AP) 7020 pts ( NR , old 6866), 2. Baljinder Singh (Mah) 6193, 3. M. Arvind Raj (TN) 5859.

Boys (under-18): 110m hurdles: 1. V.B. Fakeerappa. (Kar) 14.45s, 2. B. Kanta Rao (AP) 14.51, 3. Rahul Kumar Mishra (Jkd) 14.56; Long jump: 1. Anburaj (TN) 7.03m, 2. Bikramjit Singh (Pun) 6.93, 3. A. Dinakaran (TN) 6.90. U-16: 100m hurdles: 1. Logeshwaran (TN) 13.59s, 2. Agniv Pan (Ben) 13.69, 3. Maymon Poulose (Ker) 13.74; Long jump: 1. Sahil Mahabali (Har) 6.87m, 2. Sinay Basumatary (Asm) 6.80, 3. Abul Hasan (UP) 6.73; 5000m walk: 1. Ankit Kumar (UP) 22:17.15 ( NMR , old 22:48.20) 2. Bhagwan S. Rawal (Ukd) 22:19.70, 3. Sandeep Bind (Ukd) 22:49.25.
