Five athletes qualify for Youth Olympic Games

Five Indian athletes have qualified for the inaugural Youth Olympic Games to be held in August in Singapore after their impressive performance in the Asian Area Qualification Championships.

India won three gold, one silver and five bronze medals in the two-day qualification event, which concluded in Singapore on Sunday. India were represented by 19 athletes in the event.

The athletes who have qualified for August 14-25 Youth Olympic Games in Singapore are: Durgesh Kumar Pal (400m hurdle), Arjun (discus), Inderjit Patel (3000m), Kuldeep (10000 walk) and Khushbir Kaur (5000m Walk).

Durgesh, Arjun and Inderjit won gold in their respective events in the qualification championships while Khusbir and Kuldeep bagged silver and bronze respectively, an Athletics Federation of India release said on Monday.
