Unseeded Abhinash Prasannaji (Madurai) upset fourth seed Suraj Sankaran (PSBB) 3-11, 10-12, 11-9, 18-16, 11-7 in the junior boys pre-quarterfinals of the State table tennis championship, organised by PSNA College of Engineering & Technology and Dindigul District Table Tennis Association, at the PSNACET here on Thursday.

Leading 10-8 in the fourth game, Suraj squandered two match-points before going on to lose the game 18-16. Abhinash did not stop there.

Down 1-5 in the fifth, he won the next 10 out of the 12 points to clinch the deciding game at 11-7 and reach the last eight. The loss also meant that Suraj will not find a place in the State team for the next month's National Championship at Dharamsala.

In the junior girls category, top seed, C.R. Harshavardini from Chennai opted out of the tournament due to a injury, while seeded players Mahima Jain, S. Selena Deepthi and N. Deepika won to enter the last eight.
