2015 has been a mixed bag for online news. When a story goes out, one can generally tell whether it has the potential to do well or not. Stories about the Bihar elections, the union budget and the Chennai floods were all no-brainers when it came to the amount of eyeballs they would attract.
But there have also been quite a few surprises that came our way, including the Nadigar Sangham election that had many more hooked than some political elections, and strangely enough, a story about tatkal ticket booking.
Here, we have compiled a list of the most popular stories on The Hindu website during 2015.
The stories that almost made the cut:
>The Srirangam bypoll results - AIADMK won by a margin of over 90,000 votes, but grabbed a lot more attention from our readers, purely because it looked like it could be a preview for the 2016 Tamil Nadu Assembly elections.
>The Salman Khan verdict: Will he or won't he? The controversial hit and run case that dragged on for what seemed like forever finally came to the wire as the Bombay High Court upheld prosecution charges that Salman was driving under the influence of alcohol and lost control of his car and sentenced him to five years rigours imprisonment.
The High Court later suspended his sentence and granted him bail, pending his appeal against conviction.
