A poem for your mother

Ever thought of gifting a poem to your mother? Meet Pramod Shankar who can make that happen

This is something that you would never have imagined, say organisers from The Bier Library in the city. They have a specially curated event for Mother’s Day on May 12. “This Mother's Day, we're pairing up with writer-poet extraordinaire Pramod Shankar, to show our superheroes how much we care,” says Deepa Kaushik, Marketing Head, Bier Library.

If you want to make this Mother’s Day unforgettable, you can take your mom to The Bier Library, share your thoughts on ‘what your mother means to you’ and Pramod Shankar will instantaneously create a poem encapsulating everything wonderful shared by you. “We are not charging anything from people who want the verses written by Shankar, neither is the poet taking any fee from us. It’s all for the cause of love, the affection shown by mothers,” says Deepa. When The Bier Library’s creative theme came up with the idea and approached Pramod Shankar, he readily agreed. “All he wanted was a donation box be placed at the Library, as the family crowd who drop in, may wish to donate something for underprivileged women,” said Deepa.

Shankar or PS as he is known in the poetry world, is multifaceted and apart from poetry, music and photography, he is into stand-up comedy, public speaking and training. “If you have an open mind, the ability to multitask gets that much easier. If you care for others genuinely, and don’t take yourself too seriously, it’s possible to do anything -- poetry being one of many expressive ways,” says Shankar. “I am a poet; I love to help others and phrase poems for them,” he says.

As part of a poetry and music band experimentation, ‘The Rickshaw Muse,’ Shankar recently traced his journey into his love for words. “We are a family of writers and the culture of reading and writing has always been a part of us. Writing poetry or just giving vent to my feelings came naturally to me. After many years, I discovered my writing voice,” he says.

The Rickshaw Muse was started as an experiment to combine poetry with music. “It was pure curiosity and the need to experiment that led us to start the band. Today, I realise how much both music and poetry are appreciated in unison,” he says.

Shankar has around 30 years of association with many creative arts and it has seen him coaching people for their creative growth.
