If you want to lose weight then adopt a healthy lifestyle, not fad diets. They don't really work, warns Usha Gajapathi Raju, a city-based dietician.
The Ministry of Woman and Child development has declared September as the National Nutrition Month to mark the country’s fight against malnutrition and the dietician shared tips for a healthy lifestyle She said there was nothing to beat nutritionally balanced diets and an active lifestyle to bring about positive change.
Fad diets on the other hand did the opposite. They could lead to weight loss, but had unhealthy consequences in the long run, she says. “People regain weight faster when they stop with these diets and this can affects the body adversely,” she cautions.
“These diets put severe restrictions on what to eat and what not to eat. This makes it difficult to sustain. Every person’s body has certain nutritional demands. If those are not fulfilled, it results in weakness and recurring health problems caused by vitamin and mineral deficiencies,” she explains. Use your common sense, she urges. “Reduce your intake of processed food and remember diets are highly subjective depending on each individuals eating and lifestyle habits. One size cannot fit all.”
