TAKING A STANCE Manasvi Mamgai

Manasvi Mamgai, the brand ambassador for the Republican Hindu Coalition (RHC), was in the Capital recently to throw light on her role in the recently concluded U.S. elections, the significance of the RHC, support for Donald Trump and the growing dominance of the Hindu voice in the global, political arena. The Femina Miss India 2010 is the god daughter of Indian-American business tycoon, Shalabh Kumar and her role in the US Elections catapulted her into limelight after a Bollywood performance at the Humanity United Against Terror Charity Event organised by the RHC.

She will now be performing at the Bollywood extravaganza for Donald Trump's swearing-in ceremony. The supermodel was last seen in Bollywood in 2014 when she debuted with Prabhu Deva's Action Jackson, starring opposite Ajay Devgn.

The supermodel stunned many with her explicit support for Donald Trump earlier, but now she remarks that the very same people who had bombarded her with malicious backlash on social media were complimenting her and requesting for access to the President-elect.

Elaborating her motive for joining the campaign for Donald Trump, she stated, “We always base our opinions on what the media projects and the media was projecting the President-elect in a certain way for a long time. So earlier when I was outside the circle, I too was obviously influenced by all those reports. But then my father (Shalabh Kumar) who is actually in the heart of politics made me aware of the real facts – the Democratic Party has never had a strong voice against terrorism.” Shalabh Kumar, the industrialist who is one of the largest donors for Trump’s Victory Campaign, is also the founder of the RHC.

Shedding light on her role as the ambassador of the RHC, she explained, “We stand for similar values to the Republican Party, we begin with free enterprise, promote family values and we have a firm stand against terrorism.”

When asked if she was surprised by the election results, she quipped enthusiastically that she was not surprised by the win, but was pleasantly surprised by the margin that they won.

As an integral part of the Indian quotient in the US Election, we asked her if she saw herself joining American politics formally to which she replied, “Absolutely! He (Shalabh Kumar) wants me to run for Congress woman! But the thing for me is, I go with the flow. If something appeals to me, I will do it. So if I see my role helping something, if its fulfilling a broader agenda I will do it. I am not going to run just for the fun of it, it has to have a mission, a motive.”

This approach is not just limited to politics and influences her choice for selecting movies as well. She said, “I am an outgoing, adventurous person. Any person, my age would not be doing what I am doing now. I had the courage to step apart, leave my career behind and be involved in the elections. I like to do new things in life, in films. Action Jackson was a different film and I had an interesting negative role. It did not turn out the way that I thought it would, but my reason for choosing it was not for success, rather for its new, different challenging opportunity that it provided.” She has her eyes set on Hollywood now and quipped that she would love to work with Will Smith.

On her future projects, she remarked, “I will do something when it excites me. I am the kind of actor who has a list of favourite directors rather than actors. Also when I say directors, I would like to be a part of New Age Cinema, that are different from the mainstream ones. Even Shah Rukh Khan is doing one with Dear Zindagi. Lot of new directors with new ideas are coming up and I would love to do a project with them.”
