The great debates

One of my favourite things to do on the Internet is to watch other people argue; it’s like watching a slow-motion car crash.

One of the ideal places for this voyeurism is Reddit’s sub-Reddit, ‘Unpopular Opinion’. The burgeoning community is the place to share uncensored thoughts — while hiding behind a computer. Of course, the community is against hate speech of any kind, so your opinion better have some mindful backing.

Examples, some hilarious and others suspect, include: ‘Drunk people can consent to sex’, ‘People who say that they can’t cook are just plain lazy’, ‘Making a character suddenly LGBT isn’t a win for the community’, and ‘College applications should be completely anonymous’.

Get in on these threads, they’re great for debate class prep or even just awkward first date silences. I mean, what speaks volumes about ‘get to know me’ than ‘Picking your nose shouldn’t be discouraged but rather an accepted practice’?

Spider-man’s been on a high for the past few months and it’s not merely because the character literally glides through the air to move about. Today, the trailer for Spider-Man: Far From Home drops and it’s already giving 2019 the start we deserve. Directed by Jon Watts, who also directed Spider-Man: Homecoming , the trailer will hopefully give us a hint of what happens after Avengers: Endgame , even though this film isn’t even out yet.

We’ve long been waiting for the trailer as, originally, the teaser was set to début online at the same time as the Comic-Con Brazil screening, but Sony decided to hold it back. Reportedly, the film features a blossoming romance, and way more importantly, a battle with Mysterio who’s played by Jake Gyllenhaal.

After all, Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse , gave fans ‘real feels’ and its Golden Globe win added to the hype. If superhero movie trailers have taught us anything, it's safe to assume that Spider-Man: Far From Home will rake in at least 15 million views in its first 24 hours, including countless shares on discussion forums and reverent fan pages.
