400 techies attend 11th Barcamp

Barcamp Bangalore, the ‘unconference' for geeks and technology enthusiasts, was held at the SAP Labs, Whitefield, here on Saturday.

Over 400 techies attended the 11th edition of Barcamp. An ideal platform to exchange ideas, share insights and knowledge on a variety of technology and non-tech topics, informal sessions here revolved around ‘building a complete Windows Phone app in 45 minutes', ‘mobile analytics overview', ‘Android UI design patterns' and ‘creating Rajinikanth-powered site'. The user-generated, open participatory Barcamps are popular with the tech community as they have no preset agendas and encourage spontaneous and open-ended interactions.

New ‘smart' centre

Global technology major IBM announced the launch of a Smarter Commerce Centre of Excellence (CoE) at the India Software Lab, Bangalore. The centre will consist of a team of 25 technical experts selected from the B2B (business-to-business) and commerce enterprise marketing management teams from India Software Lab.

It will offer innovative solutions to automate and accelerate the purchasing, marketing, sales and customer service functions to organisations across India, South Asia and Asia Pacific.

3D touchscreen phone launched

Intex Technologies launched Avatar, a 3D touchscreen mobile phone, loaded with entertainment features. It gives users the choice of converting 2D images and video content into 3D with just one touch and also viewing the same in 3D using special glasses. According to a release, the phone allows consumers to store and watch unlimited videos at the rate of 30 frames per second. A dual SIM phone with a 2.8 inch screen, it is targeted at gaming enthusiasts, said Sanjay Kumar, general manager, Mobile Business, Intex Technologies (India) Ltd.

Belle update for Symbian users

Nokia announced the availability of Nokia Belle update for existing users of the latest Symbian Nokia smartphones (Symbian 3 and Symbian Anna) in India. The upgrade brings a brand new user interface, improved experience and enhanced performance on the existing Nokia devices, a release from Nokia stated. This upgrade ensures more personalisation options with new live widgets, easy shortcuts, and imaging applications with HD video recording at 30 frames per second.
