Google on Thursday, September 5, dedicated an animated doodle to Teacher’s Day, celebrated to honour former President of India Dr. S. Radhakrishnan.

The animated doodle, which runs on a loop, depicts an octopus in front of a board teaching various subjects like maths and chemistry to schools of fish.

September 5 is Dr. Radhakrishnan’s birth anniversary. The day is marked as Teacher’s Day since 1962.

Teacher’s Day is marked in many countries. UNESCO’s recommendation for the celebration is October 5, but several countries observe the day in memory of their educator-turned-leaders just like India -- Costa Rica (November 22), Czech Republic (March 28), and Ecuador (April 13).

India also observes ‘Guru Purnima’, along with Nepal, on a full moon day in June-July.

In Australia, it’s on the last Friday in October, while in the USA, National Teacher Day is on first Tuesday of May. Albania celebrates it on March 7, since the first school to teach in Albanian language was believed to have been founded on that day in 1887.

Brunei (September 23) and Bhutan (May 2) celebrate the birthday of their kings Sultan Omar Ali Saifuddien III and Jigme Dorji Wangchuck as Teacher’s Day.
