Popular e-commerce platform Myntra, which shifted to an app-only model in May last year, is back with its desktop website. The Flipkart-owned company had embraced the app-only model and shut down its desktop and mobile websites. It later brought back its mobile website for some sections with the option to purchase still limited to application.

With more than 70 per cent of Internet users in India accessing the Web through their mobile phones, the debate over app-only versus website-based model in the e-commerce sector is not surprising. While some e-tailers shifted their focus to mobile apps, most have decided to switch back to the website model to get more and more users on board.

Acquired by Flipkart in 2014, the company went app-only with the booming smartphone growth. While announcing the decision to shut down its desktop and mobile websites, the company had said, "Presently, we see 90 per cent traffic coming from the mobile app. Over 70 per cent of sales are via mobile devices. With mobile-based commerce emerging, we want to create a differentiated shopping experience for our consumers.”
