Here’s an app that lets you order fresh milk

The milkman who cycles to our houses, milk pails in tow, has now become hi-tech. He will now drop milk packets at home, and simply scan a QR code by the door. Mid Valley Integrated Dairy Farm, located in Perambalur, has launched Happy Tales, a mobile app through which people can order milk, which will be home-delivered.

Says P Vijayakumar, director, Mid Valley, “We package milk in recyclable gable top cartons. Once customers place their order on the app, the carton will be dropped inside a jute bag that we provide, which can be hung on the door. The milkman will simply scan the QR code on the bag once he drops in the milk carton,” he says.

The app provides customers the flexibility of choosing the time-scale for their order. “They can, for instance, ask for milk to be delivered for four or five days and even cancel if they wish to,” explains Vijayakumar. For cancellation, however, Happy Tales needs to be informed a day in advance.

The app is picking up well, according to Vijayakumar. “We tested it with 8,000 litres of milk and our customers liked the idea,” he says. “So far, 600 houses in Chennai have signed up, from areas such as Ashok Nagar, KK Nagar, Thiruvanmiyur, and Adyar,” he adds.
