We all love tuning in to our local radio stations when passing time at home or are stuck in traffic. However, sometimes all you want to do is listen to some good songs, but the RJ just will not stop talking (no offence to all the RJs out there, you guys are amazing), or there will be too many commercials getting too much airtime, or there may be a show from some obscure station in the world, that you want to listen to, but your FM radio could not possibly air. In that case, you could always make use of some of these radio apps.

Hindi Radio

The app lets you pick a radio station from India, Dubai, USA, Canada, U.K., Australia, Fiji and a few other countries that you may have taken a liking to. You can also elect to listen to Bollywood music when you want to. The app gives you the song’s title and other information, even album art, as and when available from the radio station. You can even let the radio play in the background while you use your phone for other purposes.

Internet Radio

This app lets you select radio stations of different genres by country, or pick full discographies of different artists to listen to. The channels are divided by genre — electro, dance, pop, relax, rock, etc. and available 24/7. The premium version of the app allows you to record what is being broadcast, even lets you set a timer to switch the radio off at a specified time. The best part is that the app works even with a low-speed internet connection (24 Kbit/sec or higher).

TuneIn Radio

TuneIn places one of the largest collections of worldwide radio stations at your fingertips. You can stream over 100000 radio stations and follow the live coverage of any worldwide event, be it sports, news, talk shows, podcasts, or music. You can also elect to listen to music by genre -- from Hip Hop to Top 40 Pop to Alternative Rock – or follow genres, podcasts, artists, sports teams, etc. There is also an option to share what you’re currently listening to with your friends for the social media junkie in you.

Jango Radio

Jango is different from the other apps in that all it does is play music. You cannot stream radio stations but you can create your own – type in an artist’s name and Jango builds a custom playlist with music similar to that of your favourite artist’s. You can also listen to music by genre -- Top 100, Hot in Hip-Hop, Indie Dance Hits, Country, Rock and more – and curate as many personal stations as you want.
