The digitally well-connected Gen Z, according to a Tata Consultancy Services-conducted survey of 12,000 students in the age group of 12-18 years, doesn’t seem to be fascinated just with social media and online shopping. It also has entrepreneurial aspirations.

Two of its top-3 role models — Steve Jobs, A.P.J. Abdul Kalam, and Bill Gates — are entrepreneurs. Surveyed about their role models, 9% of the students mentioned Steve Jobs, 8% named Abdul Kalam while 7% went with Gates.

There was little difference between metros and mini-metros when it came to the question of entrepreneurial aspirations. More than half of the students seem to have set their sights on entrepreneurship.

Gender-wise, the answers showed some difference, though. Boys overwhelmingly voted for entrepreneurship while girls seemed more closely split for and against.

Mumbai, the financial capital of the country, got an overwhelming thumbs-up for entrepreneurship. Kochi and Delhi followed in second and third place, respectively.
