35 per cent of smartphone owners annoy partners by doing work at home

A recent British survey has found that over a third of smartphone owners irritate their partners by checking work emails at home.

Some 35 per cent of people with an iPhone or BlackBerry regularly upset their other halves by reading work—related messages out of office hours, revealed the poll carried out by YouGov, on behalf of customer service provider Firstsource Solutions.

Men are more likely than women to irritate their partners by doing this, with 37 per cent admitting their mobile manners are the cause of arguments, compared to 28 per cent of women.

The survey of more than 2,000 British adults also revealed that one in ten smartphone owners checks their work emails on holiday, while one in six has a look on weekends or days off.

One in five people check their email after office hours on a work day.

"This survey shows that smart phones have become an indispensable part of everyday life and people feel the need to check their work emails regularly, even when not at work,” the Daily Mail quoted Santanu Nandi, a spokesperson for Firstsource, as saying.
