Russian freight capsule launches for ISS, Japanese capsule docks in it

A Russian cargo spacecraft launched Friday morning, carrying research equipment and supplies to the International Space Station crew.

The Progress spacecraft blasted off from Baikonur Cosmodrome in Kazakhstan at (0130 GMT), the Russian space agency said.

After a two-day flight it will arrive with 2.6 tons of cargo at the ISS.

The Progress is the second unmanned cargo craft headed to the ISS this week. A Japanese H-II Transfer Vehicle carrying six tons of food, clothing and scientific devices docked with the ISS Thursday.

The space station currently houses a crew of six, three Russians, two Americans and an Italian.
