The issue of making HIV test compulsory before marriage needs to be discussed inside as well as outside Parliament, the Government on Tuesday said in the Rajya Sabha.

Minister of State for Health Dinesh Trivedi said during Question Hour that the campaign against AIDS has not failed.

In order to protect human rights of an HIV affected patient and prevent the person from facing social stigma, his or her identity is kept a secret, he said.

On whether the government is planning to bring a bill on HIV, the minister said that no specific time frame has been set of it.

He, however, said the government will take all possible steps to control the deadly disease and for this it is ready to take note of all suggestions by the members.
