Lab-confirmed The World Health Organization has declared an Ebola outbreak in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), Africa. Of the nine people suspected to have contracted the deadly virus, three have died, with one case confirmed through tests at the national laboratory in the capital Kinshasa. More than 11,000 people died in the Ebola outbreak in West Africa in 2014-2015, mainly in Guinea, Sierra Leone and Liberia. The last outbreak in the DRC was in 2014 and killed more than 40 people. The region affected lies 1,300 km north-east of Kinshasa, close to the border with the Central African Republic. While this outbreak will be worrying for communities in this remote part of the DRC, health workers say the country is experienced in fighting the virus. Experts say an experimental vaccine could be used if needed. A file picture of an Ebola treatment centre, in Macenta, Guinea.
