The decomposed body of a rhino with its horn removed was found on Friday in Kaziranga National Park.
The adult male rhino was suspected to have been killed by poachers earlier this week. Forest guards found the carcass between the Pohumara and Rangamati camps in the Agratoli range after foul smell in the area, Park officials said on Friday.
This is the 21st rhino killed by poachers this year. According to the latest census conducted in March, there were 2,329 rhinos in the Park.
Meanwhile, to ensure better surveillance, the introductory test flight of the Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) was held in the Park on April 8 this year. The CBI, on the request of the State government, will investigate three cases of one-horned rhino poaching.
The agency has registered three cases relating to rhino poaching, from July to September in 2012, in which the body parts of the animals were taken away. The incidents took place in areas of the Park falling under Golaghat, Karbi Anglong and Nagaon districts.
