A large tree goes through the villa, and it is also reflected on the outside because we’ve put up a reflective screen on the exterior. House by the Trees: “We have an inclusive approach — be it with trees or people. On this property [in the outskirts of Ahmedabad] there were many shady neem, chikoo and amla trees. The Good Earth: “There was a gorgeous gulmohar tree at this property in Ulsoor, so we built around it. The tree goes through the pergola. House around the Trees: “The only things in this property in Kollam, Kerala, when we visited were these large mango trees. So, we first understood how the trees would grow over the years and let that define the shape of the [six-bedroom] house. One of the trees is the central feature of a lily pond that the living room [designed almost like an island] overlooks.
