What is ‘patriotic correctness’ in politics?

July 19, 2018 12:15 am | Updated 12:15 am IST

Also known as Conservative correctness, this refers to the restriction of controversial speech or opinion on issues that are generally considered to be beyond question by the political right. It is a form of political correctness but biased in favour of right-wing preferences instead of the political left. Patriotic correctness is thus considered by many to be the right-wing’s own form of political correctness. The term is usually used to describe the shutting down of criticism of national symbols like flags and anthems, policies like immigration and non-aggressive foreign policy, and modern attacks on traditional beliefs and principles.
