This refers to extreme anxiety or other unpleasant emotions caused in a person due to the prospect of getting rejected by others. People suffering from rejection sensitivity tend to over-react to social rejection and experience psychological pain. In their desire to avoid such rejection, they tend to avoid social situations involving exchange of opinion and avoid making demands that could lead to rejection. While there is no clear evidence on what causes rejection sensitivity, the condition has been traced by some researchers to rejection by parents or peers during a person’s early years.
