Sathya Vijayagopalan's article, “Our children miss the fun & frolic of yesteryear” (Open Page, Nov. 13) pierced my heart with the bitter-sweet pains of nostalgia — of days that will never return. Today's children know not what they miss. They miss the rosy dawns, the cool winter evenings, the rain-washed earth, the apple red sun taking the evening dip in the sea. Not for them the great open spaces. In my student days, the elders used to feel proud of the fact that their wards never failed in any class. My parents never asked me what I read. A 50 per cent in languages was the ultimate the most gifted could dream of!
Of course, all this is relative: today's youngsters might be sympathising with those who have never heard of Michael Jackson or enjoyed computer games.
