The proposed move to shift the ACL and put a multi-specialty paediatric hospital in its place is the right move at the right time. Many advanced countries are closing down physical libraries as they attract less number of visitors. The advancements in Information and Communication Technology have enabled people to access information on the Internet. Chennai already has two big libraries managed by the government, besides a large number of local libraries.

Putting the huge infrastructure at ACL to a more value-added use will benefit a larger number of people.
