One can understand the Lok Sabha's sentiment behind condemning the attempts at lowering the dignity of Parliament by some civil society members. As a citizen, I have the highest regard for most of our MPs. But I am also disturbed that some of them who have criminal cases pending against them were nominated by their parties and elected to Parliament. Thanks to them, my faith in democracy has been shaken. I only hope that political parties will not give the ticket to such people so that the dignity of Parliament can remain intact.

Some members of Team Anna have certainly been uncharitable to our MPs. But we cannot deny the truth in their statements. Our elected representatives call the legislature the temple of democracy but see what they do there. They hurl things on one another, boycott its proceedings, watch pornography and do what not.

All MPs concerned about the dignity of Parliament should ensure that the members of the august body are entitled to dignity. Let all elected representatives declare that they have not lowered the dignity of the House by their action in any way. They will then see that no one else will want to lower their dignity.
