Sri Lanka issue

March 16, 2012 12:29 am | Updated 12:29 am IST

I wonder why the government is so scared of taking a stand against Sri Lanka, and is hesitant to vote against it in the U.S.-sponsored U.N. resolution on the island nation's alleged war crimes. The chilling video aired on Channel 4 should shake the conscience of any normal human being. What happened in Sri Lanka was genocide and uncontrolled brutality.

The UPA government is non-committal on the issue despite strong appeals from the political parties of Tamil Nadu to vote against Sri Lanka. Its attitude, in fact, gives the impression that it may back Sri Lanka.

It has always been indifferent to the State — be it on the Mullaperiyar dam issue, water-sharing with neighbouring States, or attacks on Tamil fishermen by the Sri Lankan Navy.
