Remarks on Gujarat

December 25, 2012 01:29 am | Updated 01:29 am IST

This refers to the report “Modi’s development claim phoney, says Katju” (Dec. 24). While it may be true that the malnutrition rate and the per capita income rate for labourers in Gujarat do not compare favourably with other States, it is also true that the State has surpassed others in industrial and agricultural production. The average voter is well aware of these. In this context, Justice Markandey Katju’s outburst against the Chief Minister smacks of Modi baiting and nothing else. His remark on how elections are fought and won these days is uncharitable and uncalled for. It shows both the Election Commission and voters in a poor light. The results in Himachal Pradesh should be an eye-opener to Justice Katju.
