Prisoners’ right to vote

October 08, 2015 01:16 am | Updated 01:16 am IST

A prisoner should not be denied the right to vote, more so when the crime is yet to be proved (“ >The draconian ban on prisoner voting ,” Oct.7). A framework needs to be devised wherein factors such as severity of the crime committed and duration of prison term should be considered. The prisoners can be judged on a case by case basis and the jail authorities can provide their inputs on their conduct. Prisoners also need to be treated as a part of our democratic society.
