Parliament disruption

November 24, 2011 12:42 am | Updated 12:42 am IST

Session after session, we find the Opposition disrupting parliamentary proceedings. It is the duty of the managers of the ruling UPA to ensure smooth conduct in both Houses. Blaming the Opposition parties will not work any more as the issues raised by them are genuine.

The Speaker's job is not just to adjourn the House. She should apprise the government of the genuineness of the Opposition's demands and make way for a healthier debate.

C.R. Ananthanarayanan,

It has been quite some time since our honourable MPs performed their duties. Parliament is convened periodically, only to be adjourned every day. For whose benefit is it convened? For the contractor who runs the canteen? Or for the honourable MPs who get daily allowances? No business is transacted, no discussions are held, nothing useful is done.

V. Vedagiri,
