On immigration

February 23, 2017 12:23 am | Updated 12:23 am IST

A country such as the United Kingdom may be an example where the natives may take time to realise that immigrants work quietly behind the scenes, contributing their mite towards making the country shine (“Marching to be counted”, Feb.22). Perhaps some of this anger that is evident is not so much against immigrants as it is against the political system which has attempted to barter away national self-respect, culture and territory for selfish short-term benefits. Finally, I feel that rather than migrate to an alien world, it is best to struggle in one’s own country and work hard to make it stand tall in the comity of nations.
